Environment dept dismantles illegal lead-producing factory in Madhupur

The Department of Environment has dismantled an illegal old battery factory operating without an environmental clearance in Madhupur Upazila of Tangail. At the same time, a fine of Tk 50,000 has been imposed on the owner of the factory and the amount has been collected immediately.

The operation was conducted on Tuesday at the initiative of the Department of Environment, Tangail District Office. The operation was led by Executive Magistrate of the Department of Environment Headquarters Rezwan-ul-Islam.

During the operation, it was found that the factory was producing lead by melting old batteries without any kind of environmental clearance. This was creating a serious risk to the environment and public health. Later, the illegal factory was completely demolished and demolished as per the Environment Protection Act and a fine of Tk 50,000 was imposed on the owner and the amount was collected immediately.

Taposh Chandra Pal, Assistant Director of the Department of Environment, Tangail District Office, served as the prosecutor in the drive. At that time, the inspector of the office, Nurul Amin Pradhan, along with other officers and employees of the Department of Environment were present. Members of the police, fire service and civil defense also cooperated in the drive.

Taposh Chandra Pal, Assistant Director of the Department of Environment, Tangail District Office, said that such mobile courts and eviction drives against illegal and unlicensed industries in different places of the district will be conducted regularly in the future to prevent environmental pollution and protect public health.
