EU Rejects Claims That Increased US Fossil Fuel Imports Harm Climate Goals

The European Commission denied Tuesday that its trade deal pledge to massively ramp up US fossil fuel imports over three years would undermine the bloc's goal to become carbon neutral by 2050. "This agreement does not contradict our medium- to long-term decarbonisation objectives or targets at all," EU spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen told reporters of the pledge to buy $750 billion of US liquefied natural gas, oil and nuclear fuels to replace Russian energy sources.
