Expatriate son-in-law's house Demolished with excavator

An allegation has been made against his father-in-law and relatives of vandalizing the house of a Malaysian expatriate in Khejurtala village of Nagdah union in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga due to a family dispute. The incident of demolishing the house with an excavator (earth-cutting machine) around 10 am on Sunday has created a sensation in the area. According to local sources and the complaint of the victim's family, Rafiuddin, son of the deceased Ramzan Ali of Khejurtala village, first married Chania Khatun, daughter of Shahidul Islam of the same village. During their long stay abroad, tensions arose in their marital relationship due to various family complications. Locals said that the matter was later settled through arbitration at the police station level. After returning home, Rafiuddin married Rima Khatun, daughter of Mukul Hossain of the same village. It is alleged that almost a year after his second marriage, he took his first wife, Chania Khatun, back into the family. This incident created anger among the second wife's family and relatives.

The complaint states that on Sunday morning, Mukul Hossain and his family members brought an excavator and demolished Rafiuddin's home and various structures. A large number of locals were present at the scene at that time. Videos and pictures of the incident have been circulated on social media.

Some local residents said that although there have been various discussions in the area about Rafiuddin's personal decision, the incident of vandalizing houses by taking the law into his own hands is in no way acceptable. According to them, family disputes should be resolved through legal processes.

Nagdah Union BNP President Borhan Uddin Member said, "Mukul Hossain's daughter is very polite and gentle. What happened to her is sad. However, instead of vandalizing the house out of anger, he should have taken refuge in the law."

In this regard, Alamdanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bani Israel said, "We are aware of the incident. If we receive a written complaint, we will investigate and take legal action." It could not be confirmed whether any written complaint had been filed with the police station at the time of writing.
