Govt to take charge of troubled banks before merger: Governor

Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur said that the government will take control of weak banks before merging them. There is no reason for the depositors of the banks to worry. Because the depositors will become part of a strong bank.
The governor said this while addressing a press conference on Tuesday (May 27).
The governor said, "Depositors should not withdraw money. Because their deposits will be safe with the government control. The central bank will raise funds to form a bank resolution fund before the merger. Strategic partners will be sought and shares will be sold to large investors."
Regarding the laundered money during the rule of Awami League government, he said, "18 to 20 billion dollars were laundered during that time. It will take three to five years to bring the money back."
