July Movement Fighter Hasan Passes Away in Thailand

July fighter Mohammad Hasan died in Thailand after long struggle following a gunshot wound to the head during the July-August mass uprising in Chattogram. 

He passed away at 11.10pm on Thursday night while under treatment at a hospital in Pattaya, Thailand.

The news was confirmed by Umama Fatema, central spokesperson of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, through a post on her verified Facebook page, quoting Hasan's family.

Hasan, 19, was critically injured in Chattogram's Tigerpass area during the peak of the protests. 

Initially treated at Chattogram Medical College Hospital, he was later moved to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on September 2, 2024, for advanced care. 

On November 25, he was flown to Thailand for further treatment. For a brief period in April, Hasan showed signs of recovery and was moved off life support on April 10. But his condition declined again, and he was readmitted to intensive care on April 25. 

Despite tireless efforts by medical teams Hasan succumbed to his injuries Thursday night.

Hasan was a former student of Halishahar Garibe Newaz High School in Chattogram. He had dropped out during the pandemic and took a job at a workshop to help support his family. As the only son, he was the backbone of his household, caring deeply for his mother and two sisters.

Driven by a sense of justice and a desire to build a better future, Hasan joined the July movement, ultimately paying the highest price.
