July Uprising a combined expression of people's long-standing anger: DU VC

‎‎Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam said that the July Uprising was a combined expression of people's long-standing anger, patriotism and desire for democracy. He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled 'July Uprising 2024: Desire and Reality' at the Kishori Lal Roy Chowdhury Auditorium of Jagannath Hall on Sunday night.

The seminar was presided over by the hall's principal, Dr. Debashish Pal, and was attended by Jagannath Hall's resident teacher Dr. Pramath Mistry, Dhaka University Branch Chhatra Dal President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahas, General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon, Former President of Dhaka University Branch Chhatra Union Meghmallar Basu, Hall Branch Chhatra Dal Convener Madhusudan Kundu Hrishikesh, Hall Branch Chhatra Dal Member-Secretary Prosenjit Biswas and Senior Joint Convener Nityananda Pal and Jagannath Hall Branch Chhatra Union General Secretary Bishnu Pandit spoke at the event. The convener of the event organizing committee, resident teacher Sanjay De Ripon, conducted the event.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam said that this movement of students and the public has started a new chapter in the history of the country by ending the long 17 years of misrule. The sacrifice of the martyrs of July has given the nation a new opportunity to build a Bangladesh free from discrimination and based on justice. Everyone must remain united so that no more fascist forces rise in the future. He emphasized on taking joint initiatives to build a non-discriminatory, humane and democratic Bangladesh.

The first, second, third and special place winners of the speech competition titled ‘July Mass Uprising 2024: Aspiration and Reality’ were awarded at the event. The awardees were Nayan Das, Priyaranjan Das Prant and Papon Tripura.

Institute of Social Welfare and Research: On the occasion of the second anniversary of the historic July Mass Uprising, a seminar, discussion meeting, documentary exhibition, cultural and commemorative program titled ‘July Mass Uprising in Consciousness: Sense of Responsibility and What We Can Do’ was held at the Social Welfare and Research Institute Auditorium today, Monday, August 3, 2026. The program was presided over by Professor Dr. Mahbuba Sultana, Director of the Institute of Social Welfare and Research, and Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, spoke as the chief guest. In addition, Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, Professor Dr. Tania Rahman, Professor Dr. Md. Golam Azam and Student Advisor Professor Dr. Sheikh Tohidul Islam were present.

Department of Physics: On the occasion of the second anniversary of the July Uprising, a seminar titled 'July Revolution and Mass Uprising: Reminiscence and Discussion Meeting 2026' will be held today, August 3, at 2:30 PM in Room 300 of the Physics Department at Mukarram Bhaban. Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam will be the chief guest at the event and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Mohammad Almojaddidi Alfesani and Dean of the Faculty of Science Professor Dr. Md. Mofazzal Hossain will be present as special guests. Emeritus Professor of the Department of Physics Dr. A. F. M. Yusuf Haider will be the main discussant. The Chairman of the Department of Physics, Professor Dr. Aminul Islam Talukder, will preside over the meeting.

Department of Islamic History and Culture: A discussion meeting was held on this occasion on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the RC Majumder Arts Auditorium at the initiative of the Department of Islamic History and Culture. The Acting Chairman of the Department, Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Sarkar, presided over the meeting, and the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University, Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, was present as the chief guest.

Department of Mathematics: A discussion meeting titled “Bloody July: Expectations and Achievements” was held on this occasion on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the Rezaur Rahman Auditorium at the initiative of the Department of Mathematics. The chairperson of the Department of Mathematics, Professor Shapla Shirin, presided over the meeting, with the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Abdus Salam as the chief guest and the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Dr. Md. Mofazzal Hossain and former Vice Chancellor of Pirojpur University of Science and Technology Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam were present as special guests. The father of July Shaheed Farhan Fayyaz was present as special speaker. Convener of the event celebration committee, Professor Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman, delivered the welcome address.

Department of Botany: A discussion titled 'Bloody July 2024 in Memory' was held at the Central Gallery of the Department of Botany today, Monday, 03 August 2026, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the historic July Uprising. Chaired by the Chairman of the Department of Botany, Professor Dr. Asfaq Ahmed, Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Mohammad Almojaddidi Alfesani was the chief guest and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Karim was present as special guests. Senior Professor of the Department of Botany, Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, delivered the welcome address.

Department of Applied Mathematics: On the occasion of the second anniversary of the historic July Uprising, a discussion meeting and video documentary exhibition titled 'July Time Line 2024: Aspirations, Achievements and Expectations' will be held tomorrow, August 4 at 11:00 am at the Rezaur Rahman Auditorium of AF Mujibur Rahman Mathematics Building.
