The National Vitamin A-plus Campaign-2026 was launched here today with a target of administering vitamin A capsules to 5,24,188 children aged between six and 59 months across the district. The campaign was inaugurated at Tangail General Hospital by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tangail Sharifa Haque who fed vitamin A capsules to children to mark the opening of the programme.

Speaking at the event, the DC highlighted the importance of vitamin A in strengthening children's immune systems, preventing night blindness and other forms of blindness and supporting healthy physical growth. She urged the parents and guardians to ensure that all eligible children receive the supplements under the nationwide campaign.

According to Civil Surgeon of Tangail Dr. Foraji Md. Mahbubul Alam Manju, a total of 5, 24,188 children are being covered under the campaign in the district. Of them, 58,532 children aged between six and 11 months are receiving one blue vitamin A capsule each, while 4, 65,656 children aged between 12 and 59 months are being administered one red vitamin A capsule each.

A large number of parents attended the campaign with their children at designated centres across the district. Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanjoy Kumar Mohanta, Deputy Director of Tangail General Hospital Dr. Khandaker Sadekur Rahman, along with senior officials of the district health department, physicians, nurses and other concerned officials were present.
