With the aim of encouraging the common people to create a clean environment free from plastic pollution, cleanliness programmes were held at various places in Padma Bazar. The participants called for strengthening government and social initiatives to prevent plastic pollution. More than a hundred people from CCRC, youth and local people participated in it.
Padma CCRC President Rahim chaired the programme, and Charlathimara CCRC Treasurer Ratan Biswas moderated it, while CCDB’s Patharghata Upazila Coordinator Subrata Mistry was present as the chief guest. Also present at that time were Joynal Sarkar, Jalil Khan, Ruhita CCRC President Badal, Padma CCRC Youth Representative Ismail Khan, etc.
The speakers said, “The use of polythene is increasing in our daily lives. Polythene is a serious threat to environmental pollution, biodiversity, economy and human health. Its use is becoming popular day by day due to its ease of availability. Even if we use polythene in our yard and plant trees there, there is a possibility that those trees will fall on our houses in the subsequent flood and cause accidents. Therefore, we take an oath from today to say no to polythene and create a beautiful environment.”
