Two cousins drown in ditch in Kalia

Two cousins, Rahad Sheikh, 22 months, and Rihan Sheikh, 21 months, died after falling into a ditch near their house in Atlia Village of Kalia Upazila of the district at 10 am on Wednesday.

The deceased Rahad Sheikh was the son of Shimul Sheikh, a Saudi expatriate from the village, and Rihan Sheikh, son of Shimul’s younger brother Riaz Sheikh.

Police and locals said that after eating and drinking at 9 am on Wednesday, the mothers of the two children were busy with household chores. The two children were playing in the yard of their house. At one point, the two children fell into the ditch near their house without the family members noticing. Meanwhile, after some time, the family members did not see them in the yard of the house and started searching. At one point, they found them lying in the ditch at 10 am. They were rescued and taken to Narail Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared them dead.

Kalia Police Station OC Abdullah Al Mamun said the police were sent to the scene after receiving the news.
