Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-6 have arrested two suspected accused in the sensational murder case of transport businessman Rafique Gazi, claiming that they are active members of the Ashik Group. A team of RAB-6 Headquarters Company conducted a raid at Katakhali intersection in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat district around 7pm on Monday following a tip-off, said a press release issued by RAB-6.

During the operation, the team arrested Imon Sharif, 27, and Sajal Khan, 25, both residents of Labanchara area in Khulna. RAB said the two arrestees were identified as suspected accused during the investigation into the murder case filed with Labanchara Police Station over the killing of Rafique Gazi. According to the case details, Rafique Gazi, 40, a transport businessman, came under attack at Raypara in Mathabhanga area under Labanchara Police Station around 11:20am on June 12 while he was travelling with his wife and child.

Helmet-clad assailants intercepted him and opened fire with pistols before fleeing the scene on motorcycles. Locals rescued the critically injured Rafique and rushed him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 1:30pm the same day. Later, his wife Rina Begum filed a murder case with Labanchara Police Station. RAB said the arrested persons were handed over to Labanchara Police Station for further legal proceedings. The elite force also said its ongoing drives to arrest suspects involved in murder, arms and narcotics cases, as well as to assist investigations into major criminal cases, would continue.
