Young students have to carry two Sets of clothes & pants to school

'Our house is far away, we have to push about two to two and a half kilometers to school. Since the road is very muddy, the school gives them to them and takes them back. Like everyone else, my children also carry two sets of clothes and pants to school,' said Namita Rani Mondal of Moragang village on the banks of the Sundarbans in Shyamnagar upazila, after meeting the Upazila Executive Officer who came to inspect the school. This woman, in her thirties, also said that her son Dhritraj Mondal is a first-grade student. He has to use one set of clothes and pants to go to school and the other set of clothes and pants while taking lessons in class.

Priyanka Mondal of the same village says almost the same thing. This woman, who came to drop her two children named Anamika and Mihir to school, claims that 'the children do not want to come to school because of the tears. In addition to being forced to bring them with them, they have to come and take them back during the holidays.' He also claimed that no one can come to school and attend classes without two sets of clothes. Such a sad description of the hardships of commuting to school was not only voiced by these two guardians. Rather, numerous other young students and guardians, including second-grade student Hossain and third-grade student Khadija, claim that students face a lot of trouble coming to school during the rainy season. Books, notebooks, clothes and pants get soaked in mud. According to the young student, the only way to go to school is over the coastal protection embankment. But the brick-paved road has broken and is bumpy, making normal movement impossible. If there is even a little rain, the entire road becomes impassable. Students are forced to come to school with at least two sets of clothes. Many young students also claim that many of their classmates do not want to come to school during the rainy season due to the poor condition of the road. Hossain, a second-grade student from Moragang village, said, "Our road is very muddy, our books and toys get wet. We have a lot of trouble coming." Khadija Akhter said, "I was in first grade, and when I went to school, my clothes got wet in the mud." Tulsi Mandal's daughter Hiya, Nur Hossain's son Zahid and a few other children said almost the same thing. Young children are struggling to get to school, said the school's headmaster Animesh Kumar Mridha, noting that the road is so bad that parents send their children to school with two sets of clothes. Then, during holidays, they change their classroom clothes. Unable to cope with these problems, some families are not sending their children to school regularly. Local former UP chairman Abul Kashem Morol said that the three-kilometer road on one side of the school has been in a bad condition for a long time. Due to which, young students are facing severe difficulties in coming to school. Incidents of falling and getting injured on the road on the way to school have become a daily occurrence. Due to being a remote village, the communication system of this Maragang school on the Sundarbans is not improving.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shamsuzzahan Kanak said that the children of Maragang Government Primary School have shown success in the National School Football Competition three times in a row. When they went to deliver some prizes to the school for them, they were shocked by the picture of the communication system. The matter will be informed to the higher authorities to improve the transportation system of young children to school.

It is worth noting that the children of No. 165 East Maragang Government Primary School have participated in the school football competition four times in the last four years and reached the first round of the national level twice (2024 and 2026). In addition, the school achieved the feat of becoming the runner-up at the divisional level in 2025. As a reward for the success of the young students, the Upazila administration gave all the players a school bag and a football as a gift, in addition to the crest. Assistant Education Officer Shahin Alam, Press Club President Samiul Monir, former UP Chairman Abul Kashem Morol, among others, were present at the event.
