7 lakh children to get measles-rubella vaccine in Cumilla
A measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign began today in Cumilla, aiming to bring more than seven lakh children under coverage to curb the resurgence of measles infection. The programme was inaugurated by Cumilla lawmaker Monirul Haque Chowdhury this morning at Balrampur Primary School, while Cumilla City Corporation Administrator Yusuf Molla Tipu launched the campaign at Nagar Shastho Kendro-2 in the Sujanagar area.
Speaking at the inauguration, the administrator said that along with local children, street and floating children would also be vaccinated under the programme. If necessary, mobile booths would be set up to ensure no child is left out. He said the campaign aims to vaccinate over seven lakh children across the district.
The eight-day vaccination drive will continue from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily. Children aged between 6 and 59 months will receive a single dose of the measles-rubella vaccine. Among others, Chief Executive Officer of the City Corporation Md Mamun, Medical Officer Dr Chandana Rani, and EPI Officer Md Zahirul Islam, among others, were present at the inauguration ceremony.
