Afzal Hossain, Mamo star in Chayanika’s ‘Shomoy Ektu Thamo’

Director Chayanika Chowdhury is marking 25 years in the industry with a new telefilm, ‘Shomoy Ektu Thamo’, featuring Afzal Hossain, Zakia Bari Mamo and Mosharraf Karim.

Based on a story by Iffat Arefin Mahmud, the telefilm also stars Farzana Chhobi and Ria, with Rosie Siddiqui appearing as a guest artiste. The production is currently being filmed at locations including Mirpur and Bashundhara in Dhaka. The telefilm is produced by Gaanchill Drama & Cinema.

The story follows a well-known architect who meets Ayaz, a university engineering teacher and an old acquaintance, after returning home from a talk show one night. Their unexpected reunion after 15 years leads to a series of humorous events. The telefilm will air on Channel i on September 18.

Speaking about the project, Chowdhury said the story attracted her and that she was particularly honoured to have Afzal Hossain on board. She expressed hope that the support of everyone involved would help them create a good production.

Reflecting on her 25-year career, Chowdhury said the journey had involved hardship, disappointment, support and affection. She credited the people who helped her along the way and said she believed her best work was still ahead of her.

She has previously marked the milestone with three other productions: ‘Jochhnay Phera’, written by Shafikur Rahman Shantanu; ‘Bishonno Megh’, written by Iffat Ara Tonni; and ‘Prothom Dekhar Por’, written by Ahmed Toukir.
