On 6 May 2025, the COP29 Presidency held a briefing at the Palais des Nations in Geneva to review progress on the Baku Initiative on Human Development for Climate Resilience, launched during COP29’s first Human Development Day in November 2024.

Opening the event, Ambassador Galib Israfilov, Azerbaijan’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, stressed the need for integrated, cross-sectoral approaches to ensure climate action benefits people, particularly vulnerable groups.

The session brought together representatives from leading international organizations, including the ADB, ILO, UNESCO, UNICEF, WHO, AIIB, GCF, IOM, IsDB, UNDP, UNIDO, and UN Women. Partners shared updates on their contributions and ongoing efforts to link human development with climate resilience. Countries endorsing the Initiative also reaffirmed their strong commitment.

Concluding the meeting, Elmar Mammadov, Co-Lead of the COP29 Action Agenda Team, presented the roadmap to COP30 in Brazil, reaffirming Azerbaijan’s focus on human-centered climate action and global collaboration.
