The World Tourism Day was observed in Chattogram and its adjacent upazila of the district today with a call for promoting the tourism industry in the region.

To mark the day, the Chattogram district administration and Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation jointly brought out a colourful rally and held a discussion at local circuit house.

The rally led by Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Jahidul Islam Miya began from local circuit house premises and concluded at the same venue after parading different city streets.

The theme for the World Tourism Day 2026 is "Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: The Future of Tourism,” laying emphasis on making tourism more sustainable and environment friendly.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sharif Uddin presided over the function while Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Jahidul Islam Miya addressed the meeting as the chief guest.

Government officials, hotel and restaurant owners, and stakeholders from the tourism sector among others were present at the discussion meeting.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jahidul Islam Miya said Bangladesh's tourism sector holds immense potential that remains untapped, largely due to a lack of planning and research, insufficient tourist-friendly services, and the country's failure to effectively promote its destinations on the international stage.

To grow the sector, he stressed that the focus must shift away from short-term profits and toward prioritizing tourist safety, comfort, and quality of service, he said, laying emphasized on better showcasing the Chattogram’s sea, hills, and heritage to draw international attention.
