Couple held with large quantity of drugs in Rajshahi

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 have arrested a couple in the city with a large quantity of drugs, including 136 kilograms of cannabis and 17 grams of heroin. The recovery was made during a raid conducted on Tuesday afternoon at a rented house in the Santoshpur area of the city, according to a RAB-5 press release issued around 11:00 pm. The arrested individuals were identified as Mojibur Rahman Bakul, 47, and his wife Shampa Khatun, 28. They are residents of Turapur Mohanandakhali village under Paba upazila and had been living in the rented house in Santoshpur.

According to the press release, a team of RAB-5 conducted the drive at the house and seized the drugs from their possession. Another person involved in this matter, identified as Samsul Alam, managed to flee the scene during the operation. During initial interrogation, the detainees confessed that they, along with the absconding suspect, had long been involved in the illicit trade of cannabis and heroin. A case has been filed against them with Shah Makhdum Police Station in this connection, the release added.
