Discussion meeting on Genocide Day held in Rajshahi

A remembrance discussion on March 25 Genocide Day and the historic Great Liberation War was held here today. Rajshahi District Information Office organized the meeting at the hall room of Riverview Collectorate School in the city. The meeting was chaired by the Director of the District Information Office, Tajkia Akbari while Deputy Commander of the Rajshahi District Unit, valiant freedom fighter Masud Hossain, attended as the chief guest. In his speech, the chief guest recalled the turbulent days of the Liberation War and said that on the night of March 25, the brutal Pakistani forces launched “Operation Searchlight,” attacking unarmed and innocent Bengalis with modern weapons.

Their objective was to annihilate people indiscriminately—burning and killing youths, students, teachers, police, and people of all ages. The Bengali nation initially resisted in scattered ways and later fought in a well-organized manner to achieve victory. Addressing the students, he called for embracing the spirit of the Liberation War, saying that as future citizens of the country, they must prepare themselves and remain ever vigilant for the welfare of the nation. The meeting, moderated by Assistant Director of the District Information Office Abdul Ahad, was also attended by Deputy Director Nafeala Nasrin, Research Officer of the District Education Office Sirajul Haque Sarkar, and Head Teacher of Riverview Collectorate School Monowara Parvin as special guests.

At the beginning of the program, a documentary was screened by the District Information Office marking March 25 Genocide Day.
