Discussion on Bir Sreshtho Munshi Abdur Rouf held in Rangamati
A discussion and scholarship distribution ceremony was held here today marking the martyrdom anniversary of Bir Sreshtho Munshi Abdur Rouf. The programme was held at the Shilpakala Academy, with Rangamati Sector BGB Commander Colonel Abu Mohammad Siddique Alam attending as the chief guest. Director of the Bir Sreshtho Munshi Abdur Rouf Foundation Yasin Rana presided over the event, while foundation member Shima Tripura conducted it.
Among others, freedom fighter Colonel (Retd) Monish Dewan, who first hoisted the victory flag in Rangamati district; former mayor of Rangamati Municipality Saiful Islam Chowdhury; convener of the district Muktijoddha Sangsad, freedom fighter Lutfor Rahman; and president of the District Teachers’ Association Rantosh Mallik spoke at the discussion.
Special prayers were offered for the eternal peace of the departed soul of Munshi Abdur Rouf. Following the discussion, guests distributed prizes and certificates among students. On April 20, 1971, Munshi Abdur Rouf confronted Pakistani forces in the Burighat area of Naniarchar upazila, successfully holding them back before embracing martyrdom after being hit by a mortar shell.
