Five people, including women and children, were killed after being run over by a train in Kalihati upazila of the district on Friday night. The accident occurred around 8:00 pm in Dhalatengor area. According to police and eyewitness, the victims were passengers of a bus traveling from Sadullapur in Gaibandha. The deceased have been identified as Nargis, 35, wife of Hamidul Islam, her son Nirab, 11, Dola, 35, Sultan, 32, son of Raijal Mia and Rifa, 25, daughter of Abdur Rashid. All are residents of Sadullapur upazila in Gaibandha district.

The bus of Diganta Paribahan left Sadulapur around 10:00 am but ran out of fuel at around 7:30 pm after reaching Dhalatengor. The driver and his assistant reportedly left the vehicle to collect fuel from a nearby pump, prompting passengers to get off and wait by the roadside. During this time, several passengers, including the victims, were reportedly resting on a nearby railway track. At around 8:00 pm, a high-speed train traveling from Dhaka to Sirajganj passed through the area, crushing the five individuals on the spot.

Sub-Inspector Mizanur Rahman of the Tangail Railway Station Outpost confirmed the incident, stating that the victims died instantly. He added that the bodies would be handed over to their families after completion of legal formalities. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
