Khulna to mark Int'l Mother Language Day with extensive programmes
The Khulna District Administration has drawn up comprehensive programmes to observe the International Mother Language Day-2026 with due solemnity and respect, in line with the national observance schedule. The observance will formally begin at 12:01am on February 21 with the placing of floral wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar at Shaheed Hadis Park in Khulna., a PID handout said today
People from all walks of life, including government officials, representatives of socio-cultural organisations and students of different educational institutions, are expected to pay homage to the language martyrs. At sunrise, the national flag will be hoisted at half-mast at all educational institutions and at government, semi-government, autonomous and private establishments in accordance with the Bangladesh Flag Rules, 1972. To mark the day, a drawing and essay competition will be held at 9:30am at the Nagar Bhaban, organised by Khulna City Corporation, with participation of students from various educational institutions.
Special prayers will be offered after Zuhr prayers at mosques seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of the language martyrs and continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country. Similar prayer services will be arranged at temples, churches and other places of worship, ensuring remembrance of the martyrs by name. A discussion meeting, poetry recitation and prize distribution ceremony for winners of different competitions will be held at 11:00am at the auditorium of Khulna Shilpakala Academy.
In the evening, the District Information Office, Khulna will organise a mobile film show and a special Ekushey poster exhibition at Shaheed Hadis Park. Besides, a separate drawing competition involving students from different educational institutions will be arranged on February 19 at a convenient time. All upazilas in the district will also observe the day through similar programmes in coordination with the district-level initiatives taken by the Khulna District Administration.
