Nomination Papers Filed in Barishal Amid Festive Atmosphere
Candidates from different political parties submitted their nomination papers on Monday to contest the upcoming 13th National Parliament election in six parliamentary constituencies of Barishal. On the final day for filing nominations, candidates from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD), Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), along with several independent contenders, filed their papers at the office of the Returning Officer today amid a festive atmosphere.
Around 1:00 pm, BNP Standing Committee member Advocate Zainul Abedin arrived at the Returning Officer’s office to submit his nomination for the Barishal-3 (Babuganj–Muladi) constituency. Later, at about 2:00 pm, BNP-nominated candidate for Barisal-5 (Barisal Sadar) constituency and advisor to the party chairperson, Advocate Mujibur Rahman Sarwar, also filed his nomination.
Earlier in the day, BSD candidate Manisha Chakraborty submitted her nomination papers for the Barisal-5 constituency. Subsequently, Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh nominated candidate Advocate Moazzam Hossain Helal also filed his nomination for the same seat. Speaking to reporters, the candidates expressed optimism that voters would be able to cast their ballots in a free, fair, and peaceful environment in the forthcoming national election.
According to the election authorities, a total of 49 aspirants have collected nomination papers across the six parliamentary constituencies of Barishal up to the final day of submission.
