Pithavog to be developed as research centre for Rabindranath studies: MP Helal
Lawmaker of Khulna-4 constituency and BNP Information Affairs Secretary Azizul Bari Helal has said that Pithavog in Rupsha upazila would be developed into a research centre for the study of the life and works of Rabindranath Tagore. “All necessary government support and plans required to establish the research centre will be implemented as soon as possible,” he said.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion at the Rabindra Memorial Museum in Pithavog, marking the 165th birth anniversary of the Nobel laureate poet as the chief guest. The topic of the discussion was “Rabindranath and Secularism.” Azizul Bari Helal said that the literary works of Rabindranath are not only ornaments of the Bangla language and culture but also an eternal guideline of humanity, secularism, peace, and beauty.
“Through his poems, songs, stories, novels, and essays, Rabindranath envisioned a humane society where there would be no division among people on the grounds of religion, caste, race, or ideology,” he added. General Secretary of Khulna Press Club Md. Tarikul Islam spoke as a special guest, while former Treasurer of Khulna University Professor Mohammad Mazharul Hannan delivered the keynote speech. Rupsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sanzida Rikta presided over the function.
Among others, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Khulna Sadar Aprotim Kumar Chakraborty, Assistant Commissioner Md. Zakaria, and Joint Convener of District BNP Khan Zulfikar Ali Julu attended the programme. Earlier, Azizul Bari Helal addressed another function at Kajdia Government Higher Secondary School and College building in Rupsha as the chief guest, organised by HEED Bangladesh Khulna region, focusing on educational scholarships for meritorious students and raising awareness against drugs. At the programme, scholarships amounting to Tk 3,35,500 were distributed among 71 meritorious students.
