Arifur Saadnan:

‘Proshika’-A centre for Human Development, strongly protested and formed a human chain against the negative news broadcasted on a program called 'Unmochon' on Maasranga Televison.

On Monday (June 02) in front of Mirpur Proshika Head office, Employees of Proshika, working countrysideand in Dhaka formed a human chain and made a protest in capital Dhaka against that news.

Chief Executive of Proshika Sirajul Islam said in the human chain, ‘Maasranga Television broadcasted false, misleading and purposeful news against Proshika in their program called 'Unmochon'. Such misreporting must be stopped and Maasranga Television authorities and the concerned reporter Mazhar Milon must publicly express their regret. Maasranga Television should re-check then should broadcast news, otherwise there may be misunderstandings. For such news our organization may be damaged, people may be harmed, we do not expect such an act from Maasranga Television.’

He also said, ‘If they have anything more to know, we’ll welcome them to us and present all detailed documents. If they do not do that, we will be forced to go for legal assistance, we’ll be forced to file a complaint for the compensation of damage we’ve suffered.’

In the protest, Senior Employees also said that the information presented at Maasranga Television’s program is completely baseless and biased. The report, features interviews with people who havve themselves been expelled from the training center for embezzlement, breach of discipline and immoral activities. Qazi Faruque Ahmed, Rasheda Khanam, Abu Saeed and Ibrahim Khalil all are currently outside the training center and have multiple criminal cases pending against them.

The news report alleged that Proshika did not return the money of Harirampur member Rahima Begum - this is also a complete false. In fact, the money was embezzled through fraud by the expelled workers Ibrahim Khalil and Rasheda Khanam, which has already come to the attention of the local administration and the UNO has also given instructions in this matter. Proshika also informed that Harirampur office regularly returns money to members and Rahima Begum has never contacted office directly. For that reason, Maasranga's report is completely contradictory to the real situation of Proshika. Journalist Mazhar Milon has created a fabricated report based only on the statements of dismissed and controversial people without any verification, which against the principles of journalism.

The sale of land information published in Maasranga's report also not correct. Proshika informed that they have transferred the land through a legal process at market prices in that time. The document provided by the journalist was a separate document made with an unusual high price, which does not make a clear concept of real situation.

On behalf of the Employees of Proshika, they urged to Maasranga Television called upon to refrain from broadcasting such purposeful news and to practice responsible journalism in future. At the same time, they called upon to Maasranga Television make a publicly express regret for the damage to reputation of Proshika and to make a clear conception against confusion created in the public mind throughout their misleading and purposeful news against Proshika.
