Speakers today stressed the need to increase the use of new and emerging technologies to enhance productivity and accelerate the country's economic growth and development.

They said demand for basic necessities and services, including food, clothing, housing, healthcare and education, is continuously increasing. So, there is no alternative to raising productivity and creating greater awareness in every sector to meet the growing demand.

They made the remarks at a discussion meeting organised at the conference room of Paba Upazila Parishad marking National Productivity Day.

Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP, addressed the programme as the chief guest while Paba Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ibnul Abedin presided over it.

Speaking about state reforms, Milon said every sector of the state structure that was damaged during the previous Awami League government, including education, health, industry, agriculture and farmers' livelihoods, would be reformed gradually.

He said the 31-point outline for reforming the state would be implemented.

"We will not be vindictive or revengeful. However, the law will take its own course and the independence of the judiciary will be ensured," he said.

Regarding 'Aynaghar', Milon said those who were involved in establishing it and committing various misdeeds would be brought to justice.

Presiding over the meeting, UNO Ibnul Abedin said there is no alternative to increasing productivity for the country's overall development and economic progress.

Alongside increasing the use of modern technology in agriculture, industry and services, emphasis should also be placed on enhancing skills and efficiency, he said.

He said a prosperous and developed Bangladesh can be built through coordinated initiatives by the government and private sectors and the conscious participation of the people.

District BNP member and former Nowhata Municipality mayor Sheikh Mokbul Hossain, Upazila BNP convener Ali Hossain, Nowhata Municipal BNP president Rafiqul Islam Rafique and Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Abdul Latif, among others, spoke at the meeting.

Upazila Rural Development Officer Shamsunnahar moderated the programme.

Leaders of BNP and its affiliated organisations and entrepreneurs at different levels were also present.
