Truck–microbus collision in Dinajpur leaves one dead, 10 injured
A fatal road accident in Ghoraghat upazila of the district left one person dead and at least 10 others injured on Saturday morning after a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus. The accident occurred around 10:00 am on the Dinajpur–Gobindaganj highway in Damodarpur- Shaula area, according to the Dinajpur Police Control Room. The deceased was identified as Md. Nasim, 35, the driver of the microbus and son of Md. Sahab Uddin from Chakai village in Birganj upazila.
Eyewitnesses and police sources said that the rented microbus was traveling from Mymensingh to Dinajpur carrying 10 passengers when it collided head-on with a cucumber-laden truck. The impact left the microbus severely damaged, while the truck overturned beside the road. Police and fire service personnel quickly arrived at the scene and conducted rescue operations. A total of 11 individuals, including the driver, were pulled out from the wreckage in injured condition and taken to Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex.
On-duty doctors declared the driver dead, upon arrival. Among the injured, seven were reported to be in critical condition and were later transferred to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital around 4:00 pm. The remaining three are currently receiving treatment at the local health complex. Inspector Md. Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ghoraghat Police Station, said that the body of the deceased has been sent to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. It will be handed over to the family upon completion of the post-mortem examination. Authorities have taken both the microbus and the truck into custody, and further legal procedures are underway.
