Two AL leaders arrested in Gaibandha
Police arrested two Awami League leaders while they were returning from laying floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar in Gaibandha town on Saturday afternoon. The arrestees were identified as Imarul Islam Sabin, former secretary of the Bangladesh Jubo League's district unit, and Shahin Chokaddar, secretary of the AL's Naldanga Union unit under Sadullapur Upazila.
Police said a procession of several Awami League leaders and activists was taken out from the party office in the Railgate area on Saturday afternoon, heading towards the Shaheed Minar at Pourapark. After completing the wreath-laying ceremony, the two leaders were detained while returning to the party office. Officer-in-Charge of Gaibandha Sadar Thana Abdullah Al-Mamun said the duo were accused in a case related to the damage and burning of a BNP party office in August 2024. The arrested leaders were later sent to jail through the court, he added.
