Two-day plant festival kicks off in Khulna

A two-day Plant Festival began on Friday afternoon at Shaheed Hadis Park in the city with the slogan, "Smile in green, live in green." The festival was inaugurated amid colourful arrangements, drawing enthusiastic participation from roof garden owners, plant lovers and environmental activists. Garden enthusiasts from different parts of the district joined the event, while several popular Facebook-based groups, including Desert Fort, Khulna Plant Lover, Plant Cell and Janak Krishi, actively participated and extended cooperation in organising the fair.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dr Amirul Khasru, convener of the social and environmental organisation Sabujeh Hasi Sabujeh Bachi.  Among others, co-convener Dr Afroza Khanam, co-convener Shamima Siddique Lucky, SK Nurul Dolon Ikram, Sabbir Ahmed Munna, Asma Begum, member secretary Rana Akon and members of the executive council were present at the event.

Festival organisers said the programme aims to promote roof gardening and urban greening while raising environmental awareness among city dwellers. The fair also offers visitors an opportunity to exchange advice and share experiences on different plant species and garden care techniques. The plant festival will continue until Saturday afternoon.
