Two killed in Barishal road accident
Two people were killed and three others seriously injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a microbus in the Kasba area of Gournadi upazila on the Dhaka-Barishal Highway here this morning. The accident occurred at approximately 10:30 am when a Khulna-bound 'Tekerhat Express' bus collided with a Barishal-bound microbus. Station Officer of Gournadi Fire Service Md. Mizanur Rahman said the impact of the head-on crash left the microbus mangled. Fire service personnel rushed to the spot, rescued five people from the wreckage and sent them to the Gournadi Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared two of them dead.
One of the deceased was identified as Ripon, the driver of the microbus and a resident of Barishal city. The identity of the second deceased is yet to be confirmed by the law enforcers. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gournadi Highway Police Station Md. Shamim Sheikh said the vehicles involved in the accident have been seized and removed from the highway. While the collision caused a temporary halt in vehicle movement, the highway police have since restored normal traffic flow on the Dhaka-Barishal Highway.
