World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day observed in Rajshahi
World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day-2026 was observed under the arrangement of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Rajshahi City Unit. To mark the day, a programme was held in the City Hall room of Nagar Bhaban today. Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and Chairman of Red Crescent Society Rajshahi City Unit, Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, was present as the chief guest.
Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, in his speech, said the role of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in serving humanity is commendable. In any humanitarian crisis—disaster, epidemic, fire, flood—they have been working tirelessly by standing beside helpless people. He also noted that Red Crescent’s activities are making an important contribution to awakening humanitarian values, volunteerism, and social responsibility.
He further said Red Crescent volunteers are playing an exemplary role in engaging youth in humanitarian work. He expressed thanks and gratitude to all volunteers and stakeholders engaged in the welfare of humanity. The RCC Administrator also said a 10-day pilot programme has already been implemented to remove silt from all drains before the monsoon to alleviate waterlogging in the city.
“We are working so that city residents do not suffer during the upcoming monsoon. If water logging occurs anywhere during the rainy season, I am hopeful Red Crescent members will play a leading role in resolving it,” he added. At the event, the RCC Administrator and other guests cut a cake to mark the 198th birthday of Jean Henry Dunant.
Rajshahi City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Rezaul Karim, Secretary Sohel Rana, Vice Chairman of Red Crescent Rajshahi City Unit Rezaul Karim Raju, General Secretary Dr. Md. Shamim Hossain Chowdhury and City Unit Officer Mirza Shamim Ahsan, among others, were present.
