World Sight Day observed in Rajshahi
Health experts have urged people to remain cautious about eye health, saying prolonged use of digital devices and occupational hazards are increasingly causing vision problems.
They made the call at a post-rally discussion organised in front of the Rajshahi Civil Surgeon Office this morning on the occasion of World Sight Day.
Rajshahi Civil Surgeon Dr SIM Rajiul Karim said prolonged use of mobile phones, laptops and tablets is putting increasing pressure on the eyes, particularly among children and adolescents.
"Earlier, wearing glasses was mostly seen among older people, but now many children are also suffering from vision problems. Parents should limit children's screen time and encourage regular eye care," he said.
He said around 220 crore people worldwide suffer from different degrees of vision problems, making greater public awareness about eye care essential.
The programme was organised by the Rajshahi Civil Surgeon Office in cooperation with BRAC Health Programme and VisionSpring.
BRAC Health Programme Rajshahi Division Manager Arif Ahmed presided over the discussion. Mohammad Abul Bashar, Al Mamun and Tanmoy Kumar were present.
A day-long medical camp was also organised on the occasion to raise awareness, screen people for vision problems and provide necessary support.
