A young man has been injured in yet another mobile phone explosion, this time involving a Tecno Spark 40 Pro, reigniting concerns over smartphone safety. The incident took place on Thursday (October 16) in Bhogdanga area of Kurigram Sadar.
According to eyewitnesses, Palash Islam and his elder brother Mahmudunnabi Maruf were traveling to Bhogdanga by motorcycle for personal work when Maruf’s phone suddenly became abnormally hot inside his pocket. Moments later, it exploded with a loud bang.
The explosion caused sparks that burned Palash’s thigh, leaving him injured. Locals immediately rescued him and took him to a nearby hospital.
Palash described the terrifying moment:
“I felt the phone getting hot in my pocket. I thought the battery was charging or something, but suddenly there was a loud blast — the phone exploded, and flames hit my leg.”
Local residents expressed concern after the incident, urging smartphone users to be more cautious. Many suspect that poor-quality batteries and overheating issues are behind the increasing number of such accidents.
Notably, a similar incident occurred earlier this year, on January 12, in Bhola, when a college student was severely burned after an Infinix Hot 50 Pro Plus phone exploded in his pocket.
Residents say the growing number of such explosions is creating fresh panic among smartphone users. They have urged the government to take strict action against substandard batteries and unsafe phone models being sold in the market.
