Eight Killed in Strike on Occupied Southern Town, Moscow-Appointed Official Says

A Ukrainian strike on a Russian-occupied town in southern Ukraine killed eight people, including two children, the Moscow-installed head of the Russian-held part of Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region said Saturday.

Occupational authorities said the strike hit a seaside village on the Azov Sea.

Yevgeny Balitsky said "tourist camps" in the village of Kyrylivka came under attack at night, adding: "There are dead: eight people, including two children."

Balitsky said 14 others, including three children, were wounded and that rescue operations were ongoing.

He accused Ukraine of "deliberately" striking civilians.

The village fell to Russian forces in the first days of their 2022 offensive.

There has been an uptick in civilian deaths in the Russia-Ukraine war this summer, with both sides intensifying attacks.
