Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has continued cleanliness drives across the city to prevent mosquito breeding and raise public awareness about dengue prevention.

KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju said this while exchanging views with journalists and local residents during an inspection of ongoing mosquito control and cleanliness activities in South Tutpara this morning.

He urged residents to keep their surroundings clean and called on educational institutions, mosques, madrasahs, government and autonomous offices and business establishments to cooperate with KCC in preventing dengue.

As part of the Prime Minister's three-month cleanliness campaign to control dengue transmission, the administrator has been regularly visiting different wards to monitor the progress of the activities.

Referring to the World Health Organization's warning about dengue transmission, Manju said that although infections had declined somewhat, the disease could continue to spread until November.

He urged owners of houses, offices and business establishments to remain alert and take necessary measures to prevent mosquito breeding.

KCC is conducting regular mosquito control and cleanliness drives across the city. It has also taken initiatives to expand medical services, improve cleanliness at hospitals, establish nine medical camps to provide primary healthcare and collect data on dengue infections.

Based on infection rates, the city has been divided into red, yellow and orange zones, with special attention being given to red zones. The activities are being carried out gradually across all wards and will continue for the next two months, the administrator said.

He said keeping residential surroundings clean and ensuring that institutions maintain their own premises would help KCC build a cleaner city.

During the inspection, Manju visited Matiakhali Road, South Tutpara Christian Colony, the South Tutpara culvert in Ward No. 30 and different areas of Ward No. 31.

He inspected public awareness campaigns, road and drain cleaning, water drainage, drainage infrastructure, waste management and mosquito eradication activities.

KCC Secretary Md Reza Rashid, Chief Waste Management Officer Md Anisur Rahman, Waste Management Officer Md Ahiduzzaman Khan, authorised ward officer Sheikh Shafiqul Hasan Didar and local dignitaries were present.
