Social Services Dept allocates Tk 20.53 crore for medical aid to 4,107 patients
The Department of Social Services has allocated an additional Taka 20.53 crore for medical assistance to helpless patients suffering from cancer, kidney disease, liver cirrhosis, stroke-induced paralysis, congenital heart disease and thalassaemia.
The allocation will be distributed among 4,107 patients in 53 districts, said a letter issued on Monday.
The additional allocation has already been transferred to the accounts of Sonali Bank in the respective district under the financial assistance programme for FY 2025-26.
The allocation will be distributed in the 53 districts including Barishal, Bhola, Jhalokati, Patuakhali, Brahmanbaria, Chandpur, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Laxmipur, Noakhali, Faridpur, Gazipur, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Narsingdi, Bagerhat, Khulna, Jashore, Kushtia, Satkhira, Mymensingh, Bogura, Natore, Pabna, Rajshahi, Sirajganj, Dinajpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Thakurgaon, Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Sylhet and Sunamganj.
Different amounts of money have been allocated considering district-wise needs and applications.
Of the allocation, a maximum of Taka 3 crore has been allocated in Natore district, Taka one crore in Dinajpur, Taka 80 lakh in Narsingdi, Taka 70 lakh in Rangpur, Taka 60 lakh in Pabna and Taka 50 lakh in Bogura and Sirajganj.
The Department of Social Services said the allocated money must be spent according to the 'Financial Assistance Programme Implementation Policy for Patients Affected by Cancer, Kidney, Liver Cirrhosis, Paralysed by Stroke, Congenital Heart Disease and Thalassemia 2019 (Revised).'
Officials at the Department of Social Services said the main objective of this programme is to help poor and helpless patients suffering from serious diseases.
