Two Killed in Bus-Auto-Rickshaw Collision in Cox's Bazar


Two people were killed and four others injured in a collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a bus in Pekua upazila of the district on Monday morning. The accident occurred around 8 am on the Anwara–Banshkhali–Chakaria (ABC) regional highway near Toitong Bazar. The deceased were identified as Hasan Ali, 65, son of Abdur Rashid of Choykuritikka area under Dhemushia union in Matamuhuri upazila of Cox’s Bazar district and Afzal Sarkar, 45, son of Tota Bepari of Chauhali upazila in Sirajganj district.

The injured were Mohammad Siraj, 42, and Mohammad Shahed, 22, both residents of Harinafari area in Pekua municipality, Pakhi Begum, 55, wife of deceased Hasan Ali and their son Mohammad Ramim, 10. According to eyewitnesses, the Chattogram-bound auto-rickshaw reached the Toitong Bazar area when it collided head-on with a bus. The impact left the auto-rickshaw severely mangled and critically injured all its passengers.

Local residents rescued the victims and took them to Pekua Upazila Health Complex. Doctors on duty referred two critically injured passengers to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mehedi Hasan of Pekua Police Station confirmed the matter and said further investigation into the incident is underway.
