Ansar members seize insulin syringes worth Tk28.6 lakh at Dhaka airport

Ansar members at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have seized 1,300 insulin syringes worth an estimated Tk28.6 lakh and handed over a female passenger to customs authorities for legal action.

The incident took place around noon on Saturday at the airport’s Heavy Baggage Gate-5.

Ansar personnel on duty, including In-Charge PC Md Dulon Mia and APC Golam Rabbani, noticed the passenger’s suspicious movements as she was preparing to travel to China.

Following their instructions, female Ansar members Shahida and Sri Alo conducted a body search of the passenger. During the search, the woman allegedly offered them Tk5,000 as a bribe, which they refused.

A subsequent search, conducted in the presence of AVSEC authorities, Shift TI Zayed Hossain and Shift In-Charge PC Md Nizam Uddin, led to the recovery of 1,300 insulin syringes.

Each syringe was estimated to have a market value of around Tk2,200, putting the total value of the seized items at approximately Tk28.6 lakh.

Following instructions from the AVSEC authorities, the passenger and the seized items were handed over to customs officials, led by Shift TI Zayed Hossain and Shift In-Charge PC Md Nizam Uddin, for further legal action.

Ansar personnel at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport regularly perform duties related to passenger security, prevention of smuggling and maintaining discipline. Officials said the refusal to accept a bribe and the subsequent seizure demonstrated the personnel’s vigilance, professionalism and integrity.
