Choose Entrepreneurship Over Job Hunt, Mirza Fakhrul Tells SAU Students

Calling on young graduates to become job creators rather than job seekers, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged students to embrace agricultural entrepreneurship and establish their own enterprises.

Speaking as the chief guest at the Orientation-2026 program for newly admitted students of the 2025–2026 academic session at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) on Sunday morning, the minister said, "Instead of chasing jobs, become agricultural entrepreneurs and build your own enterprises. By doing so, you will not only create employment for yourself but also generate job opportunities for others."

He further remarked, "Those who are engaged in food production are the finest people in the country. Dear students, love your country and dedicate your knowledge and talents to its development and welfare."

The orientation program began at 9:00 a.m. on July 26, 2026 (Sunday) at the university's TSC Auditorium.

The event was attended by Dr. Mahdi Amin, Education Adviser to the Prime Minister, as the special guest. Distinguished guests included Anisur Rahman, Member of Parliament for Madaripur-3, and Sanjida Islam, Member of Parliament for Reserved Women's Seat-16.

Among those present were Professor Dr. Md. Belal Hossain, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Professor Muhammad Abul Bashar, Treasurer; Professor Dr. Md. Ashabul Haque, Director of Student Counseling and Guidance; Professor Dr. Md. Arfan Ali, Proctor; Agriculturist Md. Nazrul Islam Sultan, Registrar; the deans of the university's four faculties, department chairpersons, faculty members, officials, and newly admitted students.

The program was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Latif, Vice-Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. In his address, he said that the orientation would familiarize students with the university's academic system, research activities, co-curricular programs, campus environment, discipline, and career opportunities. He also emphasized the importance of higher education, ethical values, leadership qualities, and encouraging students to contribute effectively to the development of the country and the agricultural sector.

During the second session of the program at 2:30 p.m., Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Belal Hossain delivered a presentation on "Prospects for Agricultural Graduates in Bangladesh."

The day's events concluded with a cultural program organized by the university's cultural organization "Saptak" at 3:00 p.m., featuring performances by students.
