River Ports Asked to Hoist Cautionary Signal No. 1
River ports in Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar regions have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number one as heavy rainfall and gusty winds are likely under the influence of active monsoon winds.
The National Disaster Response Coordination Centre (NDRCC) issued the warning in a notification today, saying rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds from the south/southeast direction, with speeds of 45-60 kilometres per hour, may affect the areas during the period.
Meanwhile, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions during the next 24 hours from 9:00 am today.
The notification said heavy rainfall of 44-88 millimetres and very heavy rainfall exceeding 88 millimetres may occur during the period.
Due to the possibility of very heavy rainfall, landslides may occur at places in the hilly areas of Chattogram division, it added.
