State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury has called for regional coordination and cooperation of journalists to overcome the long-standing neglect and backwardness of Greater Mymensingh region. He made the call during a view-exchange meeting with journalists of Greater Mymensingh working in Dhaka at Bangladesh Secretariat here.

The state minister said coordinated efforts are crucial for infrastructural development of greater Mymensingh, improvement of medical services and solving other civic problems. He said an application (DO letter) signed by 34 members of parliament of Mymensingh division has been submitted to the concerned ministry to extend the expressway or flyover from Dhaka airport to Bhaluka, which is currently awaiting policy decision and approval from ECNEC. In addition, Yasser said, initial talks are underway on establishing a high-speed train connection with Mymensingh and modernising the Mymensingh Railway Station.

He urged journalists to play an vital role in ensuring patient services in hospitals and preventing irregularities. He mentioned that irregularities and corruption are not limited to the financial sector, but issues of service deprivation should also be highlighted through writing of journalists. The state minister said the government is considering a proposal to build a standard press club with modern facilities at district level across Bangladesh.

Journalists Erfanul Haque Nahid, Masudul Haque, Rafiq Muhammad, Anisur Rahman Khan, Ubaidullah Badal, Hamidul Haque Manik, Shafiul Alam Dolan, Masud Karim, Md Golam Kibria, Mahmudul Hasan and Baharam Khan spoke at the meeting, among others.
