DNCC conducts drive to clear roads, footpaths in Dhaka

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) conducted an eviction drive in Farmgate, Karwan Bazar and areas near Mirpur-1 to remove illegal shops, businesses, structures and hawkers occupying roads and footpaths.

A total of 30 members of Dhaka Metropolitan Ansar Battalion (41 BN), including 10 armed personnel, were deployed to maintain law and order and ensure security during the operation. Eighteen members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police also took part.

The drive began around 8:30am under the leadership of Executive Magistrate Marufa Begum Neli, following instructions from the DNCC administrator. The operation covered both sides of roads and footpaths from Farmgate through Zia Udyan, the Parliament complex, Karwan Bazar, government residential areas, Paikpara and the Mirpur-1 area.

During the drive, unauthorised advertising billboards and unipole signs were removed, while illegal shops, business establishments, structures and hawkers occupying public spaces were evicted.

Three people were detained in the Farmgate area on charges of obstructing government duties on the instructions of the executive magistrate. Two of them were fined Tk 10,000 each, while the third was fined Tk 5,000, bringing the total fine to Tk 25,000.

The operation was completed peacefully with no untoward incidents reported. Ansar personnel helped maintain law and order, protect officials and workers involved in the drive, and ensure the normal movement of pedestrians and vehicles.

The coordinated operation aimed to free busy roads and footpaths from illegal occupation, restore traffic discipline and ensure safe movement for the public.
